Pet In-House Diagnostics

At Cincinnati Veterinary Surgical and Wellness Center in Cincinnati, we use an array of reliable tools to evaluate our patients, diagnose a variety of health issues, and pursue the best possible treatment plans. Our equipment includes a full in-house laboratory for running a variety of tests, digital radiography and dental X-ray, and ultrasound.

Having a diagnostic lab right here in our hospital means we can conveniently perform various important tests and get results in just a few minutes. This is extremely beneficial to animals that are very unwell and in need of timely treatment. Our testing capabilities allow us to test for all kinds of abnormal issues, such as high/low blood glucose, infections, liver and kidney disease, and more.

For pets that are otherwise healthy and seeing us for routine health screens, we generally take samples and send them to an external laboratory for a comprehensive review.

Digital X-ray is an excellent tool for visualizing your pet’s bones and joints, but it can even do more than that. With X-ray, our team can also evaluate the heart and lungs and possibly even identify foreign bodies and tumors. What makes our digital equipment especially helpful is that it makes X-ray procedures easier for pets. We can spend less time positioning and re-positioning your pet, and the images produced are sharper and more detailed than standard film X-rays.

Ultrasound is the best tool for visualizing the soft tissue organs in the abdominal cavity. While it is known for helping to diagnose and monitor animal pregnancies, ultrasound is also beneficial in helping us detect and diagnose cysts and tumors and assess the size, shape, and texture abnormalities of the soft organs. Unlike X-ray, ultrasound does not give our team static images to look at but moving, real-time footage that shows the organs and blood vessels in motion.
